Valentine Cereal Bars

January 20, 2023 by smilesfromscratch Leave a Comment

If you find yourself in need of a very quick treat for Valentine’s Day, these Valentine Cereal Bars take only a few ingredients and minutes to make. And bonus… they’re really a crowd pleaser!

What you’ll need

Ingredients

6 cups of cereal

1 10oz bag of marshmallows

3 Tbs butter (plus a little for greasing the pan)

1 tsp vanilla extract

sprinkles (optional)

Other

parchment paper

a dish (The bars pictured were made in a 7×11 baking dish.)

A heavy bottom pot

How to make Valentine Cereal Bars

There is really nothing to these treats!

First, line a baking dish with parchment paper and lightly grease it with a little butter.

In a heavy bottom pot, melt 3 tablespoons of butter.

Then add the marshmallows and vanilla stirring constantly. They will melt quickly!

When the mixture is melted, turn off the heat and stir in the cereal.

Next, pour the sticky cereal into the lined baking dish.

And lastly, lay a second piece of parchment paper over the top of the cereal and then press the treat down firmly into the dish.

Sprinkles are optional, but what a fun way to make these treats festive! Be sure to sprinkle them before they cool.

Let the treats cool completely before cutting. It should only take about 15mins to cool!

Tips

  • This is a perfect way to use up any cereal that isn’t getting eaten at your house… the added sweetness from the marshmallows makes any cereal feel like something special!
    • For these I used some off-brand toasted O’s, but you can really use any cereal you want!
  • Really pack the treats into the dish. Firmly packed treats will maintain their shape better when cut.
  • You can also use cookie cutters to cut the cereal bars, but be sure to grease the cookie cutter first.
