Here is a great turkey craft to practice thankfulness this season. Make a Thankful Turkey with your kids or with your dinner guests!
I think many of us may have the same tradition… you know, the one where we go around the table at Thanksgiving and say what we’re thankful for. The Thankful Turkey craft is a spin on that tradition. We like it at our house for a few reasons:
- It gives the kids something to do on Thanksgiving day while the adults are busy with food prep.
- All the normal things like creativity, fine motor skills, scissor skills, penmanship etc.
- Its a wonderful practice in gratitude.
It is known that practicing gratitude regularly leads to feeling more positive emotions.
Supplies

Colored construction paper
- brown for the turkey’s body
- colors of your choice for the feathers
- white paper for the eyes
scissors
black marker
tape (I suggest painter’s tape if you plan to tape it up to the wall)
something circular to trace

First make the turkey’s body by tracing something circular overlapping almost like a venn diagram.
Cut out a small triangular piece out of yellow paper and a squiggly piece of red paper. Overlap them with the squiggly piece off set on either the right or the left. You can attach them with painters tape or you can glue them down. I use tape because it is faster and there is no risk of wet glue on my walls.

Next you can freehand some feathers. No need to be precise here.

Give your turkey some eyeballs and add the instructions on the turkey’s tummy. “We are thankful for…” is a simple and effective prompt, but or course you can personalize it!

Let your kiddos or your guests write what they are thankful for on each of the feathers and spend some time being grateful for each other.

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Keep Smiling.
