This quick hot chocolate is a perfect treat on a cold day! It’s a favorite weekday goodie for my kiddos. I hope yours will enjoy it too. It comes together in less than 10 minutes and I think my babies drink it even faster!
There really is a spectrum of decadence when it comes to hot chocolate. This recipe is on the less decadent side, but it is a big step up from the pre-portioned packets you can find at the grocery store and take only minimally more effort to make. When you realize how easy it is to have better hot chocolate at home, I bet you’ll be reaching for the ingredients, rather than the packets!
What you’ll need
2 1/2 c milk of choice
1/4 c cocoa powder
1/4 c maple syrup
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
How to make Quick Hot Chocolate
Start by heating milk in a saucepan.
Then, just as the milk has started to get warm, add the cocoa powder and whisk it in to dissolve all of the cocoa clumps.
Add in the maple syrup and vanilla extract and stir, letting the flavors infuse.
Heat the hot chocolate to the desired temperature, but take care to never let the milk boil.
Now this is a quick hot chocolate. I usually serve it as is without toppings, but I do sometimes add just a drop of heavy cream or half and half if I have it on hand for a little extra creaminess. Of course, you could top with whipped cream or marshmallows too.
Substitutions
Milk- You can use any milk you like. Almond milk is a great substitute.
Maple Syrup-You can swap regular granulated sugar for the maple syrup if you like.
Vanilla Extract- For something a little more festive, you can use peppermint extract instead or in addition to the vanilla. Start with just 1/4tsp and add more to taste.
